UC/CSU Application Information

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dates and deadlines:

  • August 1st - Application opens for applicants for Fall 2019

  • November 30th - UC Application Deadline!

  • March 1st - Notification of Fall 2019 admission decisions begins

  • May 1st - Deadline for admitted freshmen to submit Statement of Intent to Register (SIR)


Admission Requirements:

  • Complete 15 UC-required college-preparatory ("a-g") courses, with 11 of those done by the end of 11th grade

  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better (weighted by honors/AP bonus points) in these courses

  • Take the ACT with Writing or SAT with Essay. SAT Subject Tests are now optional

  • Submit your responses to 4 "personal insight questions"


How to Apply:

  • Go to https://admissions.universityofcalifornia.edu to make an account

  • Ask your counselor for a copy of your transcripts, you will be required to enter information about your A-G coursework

  • Respond to the personal insight questions on a word processor and copy and paste the responses to the application


Tips:

  • List all of the High Schools and Colleges that you have attended (including middle school if you have received High School credit for classes taken at your middle school)

  • If a class that you took is not found on the course list for SoHDA, you can manually enter the class by clicking the "ADD ANOTHER COURSE" button at the bottom of the page

  • Enter all of the A-G courses you have completed and that appear on your transcript. This includes courses that you have repeated. The higher grade will be used to calculate your UC GPA.

  • Certain classes like Stage Tech and Economics will be under the "G - Electives Section"

Admission Requirements:

  • Meet the Eligibility Index, minimum requirements (see the Eligibility Index section for more information)

  • Complete 15 UC-required college-preparatory ("a-g") courses

  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better (weighted by honors/AP bonus points) in these courses

  • Test scores are required unless you have a grade point average (GPA) above 3.00 and are a resident of California

  • The CSU takes either the ACT with Writing or SAT with Essay to satisfy the test requirement.


Eligibility Index:

  • The Eligibility Index Table shows the combination of test scores and grade point averages required to meet minimum eligibility requirements

  • You can calculate your eligibility index by multiplying your (GPA) by 800 and adding your combined score on the SAT/ACT, using the combined scores earned on the critical reading and math sections. 

    • Eligibility Index Minimum using the SAT= 2905

      • To determine the minimum SAT score needed to apply based on your GPA : 2905 - (GPA x 800)

    • Eligibility Index Minimum using the ACT = 694

    • To determine the minimum ACT score needed to apply based on your GPA :  (694- (GPA x 200) )/10

  • The CSU does not use the SAT Writing section or the ACT Writing score to calculate the CSU Eligibility Index


How to Apply:

  •  Go to the CSU site to make CSU Apply Go to the and account

  • Click on the light blue box on the right, since you will be applying for the Fall 2019 application cycle

  • Ask your counselor for a copy of your transcripts, you will be required to enter information about your A-G coursework

Undocumented Students - Tips for filling out applications

Application fee waivers

You can apply for a fee waiver within the online application and be notified immediately whether you have qualified. You will get the option of applying for a fee waiver based on how you fill out these questions:

  • Citizenship status: If you choose “No selection” (see the tips for filling out this section below)

  • California residency: If you attended a California high school for three or more years and will graduate or have graduated from a California high school

  • Your family's income and the number of people supported by that income


Social security number

  • If you have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) — for instance, because of immigration proceedings — enter that on the application.

  • If you have an SSN for work purposes (usually through DACA), use that where the application asks for an SSN.

  • If you don’t have a valid SSN or SSN for work purposes, but do have an Individual Tax Payer Identification Number (ITIN), use the ITIN in place of an SSN on the application.

  • If you don’t have a valid SSN, SSN for work purposes, or ITIN, leave this item blank.

Make sure that the number you use on this item in the application is the same as the SSN or ITIN you enter on your Cal Dream Act Application.

Country of citizenship

As an undocumented student, you have the option to choose “No Selection.” This option is considered a valid response and we recommend this choice for undocumented applicants, including those with DACA status. By choosing “No Selection,” you’ll avoid being asked other questions about permanent residency and visa status that are not applicable to you.

California residency

You’ll be asked the following questions to determine if you are a California resident for admissions purposes:

  • Have you attended a California high school for three or more years and will graduate or have graduated from a California high school?

  • How long have you lived in California?

  • Is your parent or legal guardian a legal permanent resident of California? [if you’re under 18]

  • Is your parent, legal guardian, spouse or registered domestic partner an employee of UC or a UC-affiliated national laboratory?


If you’re considered a California resident for admissions purposes, you may be eligible for our application fee waiver and you’ll be considered for admission using the 3.0 minimum GPA (rather than the 3.4 GPA for nonresident applicants).

Parent citizenship information

When you submit your application, you'll be asked questions about your parents’ citizenship status. For example: Is your parent a U.S. citizen? Has your parent been physically present in CA for the last 3 years? You don’t have to answer these questions, but if you do, we encourage you to answer them truthfully — any information you provide will not affect your admission decision. This information is used only to help UC determine residency.
